Just after 1 a.m. on June 14th, 2009 Joyce and her friend Christa were taking a taxi home. Their cab was headed east on Columbia Parkway travelling quickly when an unidentified vandal threw a five pound rock at their moving cab. The rock entered the car through the open window of the front passenger side striking Joyce in the rear seat on the opposite side of the car. She suffered multiple skull fractures on her forehead. She was immediately sent to University Hospital and underwent surgery to repair her wound. There, she spent five days in ICU before being transferred and stayed several more days in the hospital under the watchful care of the staff. She is now resting at home receiving round the clock care.
The case is currently under investigation by the Cincinnati Police. So far they have been unable to determine a suspect(s) at this time. Many other cars were damaged throughout the evening but Joyce was the only injury from this incident. If you have any information on this case, please contact Cincinnati Crime Stoppers (1-888-352-3040). The public’s help is paramount in finding the criminals responsible and bringing them to justice.
Joyce is only beginning to recover from her serious injuries. Her medical expenses are mounting. She is unfortunately without insurance. Joyce will be in need of long term treatment and follow up procedures over the next year. Over the next several months she will be unable to work.
Her friends have established The Joyce Baresel Fund at Fifth Third Bank in Cincinnati, OH to help alleviate some of the financial burden. Any support, no matter how small, is encouraged and greatly appreciated. Please keep Joyce in your thoughts and prayers.

Let me first say that I am not quite ready for any interviews but really appreciate everyone respecting my privacy while I am getting better.
I received word that an arrest was made in my case. At this time, I do not have a comment regarding the suspects.
The entire event has been difficult to handle and I am concentrating on my recovery. However I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Cincinnati Police Department for their continued efforts.
Special thanks to Detective Moy and Chief Streicher for their focus and dedication towards solving this case. I also would like to thank my family, friends and the Cincinnati community for their overwhelming support, prayers and well-wishes.
